"Reporter's Notes" with M.L. Elrick |

Pulitzer-Prize winning Detroit Free Press reporter M.L. Elrick will speak about investigative journalism and the power of the press, discussing the role of the media as watchdog and the challenges of writing for modern media.
Elrick and reporter Jim Schaefer won the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for their coverage of the scandals that led to Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's resignation and criminal conviction, from which they later compiled the book "The Kwame Sutra." Elrick's other awards include the 2009 1st Amendment Watchdog Award and 2008 Associated Press Managing Editors Public Service Award.
Elrick graduated from Michigan State University in 1990 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism. His work has appeared in New York Times, Newsday, Investigative Reporters and Editors Journal, Salon.com, Rollingstone.com, the National Law Journal, Chicago Magazine, and HOUR Detroit magazine. He has taught journalism at Wayne State University, Michigan State University and University of Michigan-Dearborn.
