Monday, June 29

• An officer transported a 41-year-old female to Osceola County Jail on the strength of a valid warrant for Failure to Appear.
• An officer saw suspicious smoke rising from the back of a building and investigated. This turned out to be an individual smoking and not a fire.
• An officer was dispatched regarding a crash, involving a deer, without injuries. Unfortunately, the animal was unable to move and had to be dispatched.

Tuesday, June 30

• Officers conducted numerous traffic stops, issued citations, patrolled the town and conducted security checks.

Wednesday, July 1

• An officer was called to a residence for a domestic complaint. Interviews and statements were completed. This report has been sent to the prosecutor’s office for review.
• An officer investigated an ordinance violation concerning an inoperable vehicle.
• An officer issued a time limit to resolve a grass ordinance violation. The resident proceeded to resolve the situation at that time.

Thursday, July 2

• An officer was dispatched to a family disagreement over custodial arrangements set forth by CPS. After investigation, the juvenile did follow CPS protocol and left with the appropriate family member.

• An officer took statements from individuals on an alleged domestic incident. This case has been referred to the prosecutor’s office for review.

Friday, July 3

• An officer located and followed a suspicious vehicle, while relaying locations to other agencies. A traffic stop was made and Reed City Police assisted until the incident was turned over to another agency with jurisdiction.

• An officer was dispatched regarding a disorderly patient at RCH. Once staff was able to perform their duties, the officer cleared the scene.

• An officer located a suspicious vehicle at a local business. One of the passengers was waiting for a ride from the location in that vehicle for safety. The ride arrived and the officer cleared.

• An officer investigated a fireworks complaint. The individual at the location stated that they thought they had until midnight and concluded the said activity upon explanation of the ordinance stipulations.

Saturday, July 4

• An officer was dispatched regarding an illegal fireworks complaint. The suspected fireworks were found to be in compliance with the city ordinance and not illegal in nature.

Sunday, July 5

• During security checks, an officer located two vehicles and one individual at a business after hours. The individual had parked there to rest before going to work in a few minutes, and no other individuals were found. The person left shortly thereafter.

Monday, July 6

• An officer was called for a damage report regarding the use of fireworks. A suspect was identified following an investigation. A verbal agreement was made between the two parties, as the complainant stated they would allow the person to make the needed repairs.

• Officers were dispatched for a domestic assault in progress. Statements, interviews, and evidence were gathered. A 35-year-old male was arrested for Domestic Assault and Interfering with 911 Call. He was transported to Osceola County Jail without incident. Officers provided the victim with crime victim’s rights information. CPS was also contacted.

• An officer assisted the Newaygo County Sheriff's Department with an investigation and interviews on an incident in their jurisdiction. Information was documented from statements and turned over to Newaygo County Sheriff's Department. CPS was also contacted.

Tuesday, July 7

• Officers issued traffic citations, performed patrols, security checks, and follow-up on active cases.

Wednesday, July 8

• An officer was flagged down while on patrol for a civil dispute. The dispute was only verbal. After conversation, the complainant agreed to drive the person to their home.

• An officer located several juveniles at a local business after allowed hours, which is a violation of the curfew ordinance. Two of the individuals were picked up at the location and the remaining proceeded home directly.

Thursday, July 9

• An officer was dispatched for drag racing within the city limits. Based on vehicle descriptions, the area was patrolled but no vehicles were located.

• While conducting security checks, an officer located an open door. Osceola County Sheriff's deputies assisted with clearing the building. Nothing was found out of order.

Friday, July 10

• An officer investigated a rental registration ordinance violation complaint. The landlord was contacted and the violations discussed. The landlord will contact the tenant to schedule and resolve the issues prior to a designated date, and confirmation of said repairs provided, or the violation will be cited.

• An officer was called regarding a complaint of two dogs at large. Upon arrival, the two dogs were observed at large by the officer. The owner was issued a citation.

• An officer investigated a call for a well-being check. Upon arrival, the individual requested to be taken to RCH for an evaluation. Transportation was provided and the officer remained with the patient until they were safely checked in.

Saturday, July 11

• An officer located an individual in a vehicle parked at a public lot. The person was identified and was waiting for a friend to get out of work.

• An officer was dispatched to locate a stolen vehicle. The vehicle was located and secured. The owner did not wish to pursue criminal charges and will handle arrangements to retrieve the vehicle from this point forward.

• An officer was called for a suspicious vehicle at a local park. The vehicle was located and all occupants identified. The occupants were driving around to occupy some time, and nothing suspicious was ascertained at this time.

Sunday, July 12

• An officer investigated a complaint of retail fraud at a local business. Statements were given, and the suspect’s identity was confirmed. The 34-year-old male suspect was located, interviewed, and was arrested for multiple open Failure to Appear warrants and was transported to jail without incident. Current charges for retail fraud have been submitted to the prosecutor’s office for review.

• An officer was called for a complaint of suspicious activity at a local park. The area was patrolled heavily, but no suspect was located. More detailed information and evidence is pending.

Monday, July 13

• An officer was dispatched to an area check. The area was patrolled, but no one could be located matching the information received.

Tuesday, July 14

• An officer was dispatched to RCH for an unruly patient. Through investigation and interviews, it was discovered to be miscommunication based on a language barrier by the parties involved. Those involved came to an understanding and it was determined that no criminal matter had occurred.

• An officer investigated a complaint and gathered evidence regarding an attempted breaking and entering. This case is open pending further investigation.

• An officer was called for a car-vs-mobility scooter accident. Medical assistance was refused and there is no known damage to either vehicle. The at fault party was issued a citation for fail to yield.

• An officer was called to a well-being check. Through investigation, it was determined that the individual was visiting family out of town.

Wednesday, July 15

• An officer was dispatched regarding multiple 911 hang-up calls. The caller was located and interviewed. Due to there being no emergency at the time, the calls were placed and he individual was advised that if they continued to call unnecessarily, there would be action taken for 911 misuse.

• An officer took a complaint regarding a dumpster emitting a very foul odor. The homeowner was contacted, advised of the nuisance violation, and given a date to correct the violation.

Thursday, July 16

• Officers conducted proactive patrols, traffic enforcement, security checks and follow-up on open investigations.

Friday, July 17

• An officer was dispatched for an odor at a residence. Upon gaining entry, the resident was located deceased. The investigation was completed and this death is believed to be caused by natural causes.

• An officer was called to take a trespass complaint. The complainant was advised to notify Reed City Police when the subject was present, and they would be served.

• An officer investigated a complaint of a personal protection order violation and documented evidence. This case has been forwarded to the prosecutor’s office.

• An officer confirmed an active warrant for a subject currently incarcerated at another county. Reed City Police will be advised when the person is available for arrest and transport to this county.
