Driver killed, three passengers hospitalized in M-37 wreck

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office has reported that one of the drivers has died in yesterday’s significant crash along M-37.

The two-vehicle crash occurred around 4:17 p.m. in Pleasant Plains Township near the intersection of 76th Street by Houseman Foods.

According to the investigation, a northbound driver was waiting to turn left into the BP gas station when another vehicle attempted to pass on the right side of the roadway. The other vehicle then hit the back corner of the turning vehicle, lost control and rolled off the roadway

“The driver of the passing vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash,” Sheriff Rich Martin said. “Two other injured occupants from that vehicle were transported to Corewell Hospital in Reed City by Life EMS. A third passenger was transported from the scene by Aeromed to a hospital in Grand Rapids. The sole occupant of the turning vehicle had minor injuries.”

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor, according to the investigation.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Michigan State Police, Lake County 911 Central Dispatch, Life EMS, Aeromed, Pleasant Plains Township Fire, Lake Township Fire, Lilley Township Fire, Webber Township Fire and AA Towing.
