The Big Rapids City Commission will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 21, at City Hall.

A featured item is a proposal from Fleis & VandenBrink for design, permitting and bidding services on the Clay Cliffs Trail project. The work would cover a 0.75-mile segment of trail in the Clay Cliffs Nature Area and is intended to make that stretch ADA-compliant. Planned improvements include accessible benches, wayfinding and educational signs, landscape restoration and two new bridges over Mitchell Creek — one replacing an existing footbridge and another farther south toward the Clay Cliffs area. Commissioners will consider accepting the engineering proposal for no more than $67,500. The city previously accepted a $391,400 Michigan Department of Natural Resources Trust Fund grant for the project.

Commissioners also will consider selling city-owned property at 126 S. DeKrafft Ave. to the Big Rapids Housing Commission for $16,000 after determining the parcel is not needed for a current or future city public purpose.

Other agenda items include:

• Amending the fiscal 2026-27 budget to carry forward unfinished fiscal 2025-26 purchases and projects
• Authorizing upfitting of a 2027 Dodge Ram 3500 for the Department of Public Works and a 2027 Chevrolet Tahoe police cruiser for the Department of Public Safety
• A study session update from Fire Chief Steve Schroeder on the Big Rapids Fire Department
