17-year-old airlifted to hospital following intersection wreck near Stanwood

On Saturday night, July 25, emergency respondents were dispatched to Northland Drive and 8 Mile Road near Big L Lumber in Stanwood.

According to Mecosta County Sheriff's deputies, a 56-year-old man from Caledonia was travelling westbound on 8 Mile Road and failed to yield right of way to oncoming traffic. His vehicle than struck a northbound vehicle on Northland Drive, driven by a 17-year-old boy from Morley. The wreck occured around 10:14 p.m.

"(The driver and passenger) from Caledonia were transported to Corewell Health Hospital in Big Rapids for minor injuries," Deputy Mentink said. "The 17-year-old driver was lifted (via AeroMed) to Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids with serious injuries."

Deputies were assisted by Mecosta County EMS, Mecosta Township Fire/Rescue, AeroMed and Meceola Central Dispatch.
